Required Qualifications

This position requires at least a High School diploma or GED equivalent. In addition, the position requires certification by the State of Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training as a Fire Instructor I, II, or III. If not already a State of Florida Fire Service instructor, interns are eligible to be certified as a State of Florida Fire Service instructor upon completion of the internship period.

Job Description

The person in this position will become familiar with material and methods necessary to function as an adjunct faculty Instructor for the HCC Fire Academy. The training will cover all facets of instruction in the elements of the State of Florida Minimum Standards Firefighter Training Program as identified in FAC 69A-37.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer applicants with: (1) certification by the State of Florida of Fire Standards and Training as a Live Fire Training Instructor I or II, (2) effective oral and written communication skills, (3) computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook), (4) demonstrated leadership skills, and (5) strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Supplemental Job Information

The College is seeking applicants to teach part-time for upcoming semesters. This part-time position will not exceed 29 hours of work in a week. The supervisor will establish the work schedule upon hiring. Key job responsibilities include: (1) maintain a lesson plan of daily instructional events, (2) monitor student attendance/retention and document, (3) grade assignments, return graded assignments to students, and assign final grades for all students in a timely manner, (4) provide educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment, (5) monitor all equipment and supply inventory, (6) secure consumable supplies as well as educational materials in a locked facility, and (7) maintain professional expertise (faculty development) to meet accreditation standards by attending educational seminars in professional field, reading current literature, and attending online courses.
