The position requires either (1) vocational or technical school beyond High School/GED equivalent and at least one year of security guard or law enforcement experience, or (2) at least an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement. In addition, requires a current: (1) Florida Class D security license, (2) CPR and first aid certification, and (3) Florida driver’s license.

Job Description

The position maintains a safe and secure environment for College students, faculty, staff and visitors by patrolling campus to prevent crime, protecting life and property, preserving peace and assisting law enforcement officers in their investigations of offenses at the College.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer applicants with: (1) law enforcement, fire, EMS, or military police/security experience, (2) experience in the use of two-way radio communications equipment, (3) the ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, (4) knowledge of the methods of handling difficult public contacts, (5) proficiency with standard office equipment such as copier, scanner and fax, and (6) familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and basic computer operations.

Supplemental Job Information

Public Safety officers are required to respond to dispatched calls, operate department golf carts/automobiles/trucks on or between facilities, render aid and assistance, and document incidents with thorough electronic reports. The Department of Public Safety operates 24/7, 365 days a year. Officers can be assigned to any of three daily shifts, on any of the five main campuses and two administrative centers. Applicants must be willing to work the various shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends. Public Safety Officers are considered “essential employee positions” by the College and are subject to work during emergency closings of the College, in addition to College holidays and break periods.
