Required Qualifications

The position requires applicants to possess a State of Florida certification as a Firefighter II, State of Florida certification as a Fire Instructor I, II or III and a valid Florida driver’s license and successful completion of a minimum of one term as a Fire Academy Instructor intern.

Job Description

This is to fill part-time adjunct faculty positions to at the Fire Academy for upcoming semesters. Presents both practical and classroom instruction for a variety of fire and emergency medical related training programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer applicants with: (1) State of Florida certification to teach S-130 and S-190 Wildland Firefighting courses, (2) State of Florida certification as a Paramedic or EMT, (3) ability to maintain open line of communications to students and other instructors during training operations, (4) ability to perform and demonstrate tasks in high risk situations, and (5) ability to clearly speak to groups of students, co-workers, staff in other organizational agencies and the general public.

Supplemental Job Information

Key job responsibilities include: (1) performs routine maintenance on all equipment and apparatus, (2) prepares and maintains required training documentation, (3) maintains a safe working environment at all times, (5) performs live burn operations for both students and in-service training, (6) performs training during both non-IDLH and IDLH environments, (7) performs firefighter job related tasks for demonstration and technique during training sessions, (8) complies with all local, state and federal laws required for fire training centers, (9) reviews and grades written tests, written assignments, and any projects assigned to students, and (10) presents and attends regular training for renewal of certifications and career enhancement.
